DRAFT         Weltkultu(h)rerbe Zeche Zollverein

An old coal-mine, the world heritage Zeche Zollverein in Essen / Germany, is also the birthplace of the Munich Orientation Convention, an idea from a Munichian inventor to simplify and harmonize worldwide all orientation means: signage, cartography, navigation devices and verbal expressions.

Within this area, it is possible to find any target with easy brain work, that means

- without maps, - without names,
- without illogical numbers  - without arrows
- without floor marks  - without square grids
- without colors - without navigation devices

All buildings, rooms, lifts, stairs, emergency exits, extinguishers etc. have logical addresses like
                       StatusQuo© ZZV m4:2 r7

which are easy to understand if you associate the Zeche Zollverein with a clock as follows:

Around an outstanding point called

   centrum m0

the horizon is divided in 12 directions

     m1  to  m12

the so-called horizon hours,

whereas m12 points to north, m3 to east, m6 to south etc.

Soldiers, boy scouts, pilots, blind people etc divide the horizon in 12 (instead of 8, 10, 16 or 360) directions for 100 years (!). Why shouldn't average people be able to do the same?

Considering the distance to m0 as r = radius in steps of 10 meters, logical position codes StatusQuo© for targets, buildings, crossings etc. come into existence, e. g.:

  StatusQuo ZZV m10 r50

for a crossing. ZZV means that the code is only valid within the  Zeche Zollverein

In simple words:

"r" is a numbering starting FROM m0

"m" is a north-direction-based numbering AROUND m0

and this simple methode covers a gigantic market gap: logical and easy understandable position codes.

Horizon hours are divided in horizon minutes, not as angles but as DISTANCES to the horizon hour, also in steps of 10 meters. The simple convention is: THE GREATER, THE LATER.

Example:     m5:10

( read   "emm five point ten"   or   "emm five ten" )

This convention defines a line which is 10 x 10 = 100m "later" than the horizon hour m5.

The position of an object with a StatusQuo© beginning with this code is "later" than e. g. an object with m5:5

Natural Cartography©: a map© of the Zeche Zollverein has innovative characteritics acc. to www.volksnav.com/map and look like this:

Please observe that for the first time it is possible

- to orient within the map as on reality. There is no need for square grids A, B, C..., indexes or scale indications.

- to address objects which are outside of the map, e. g. m6 r77

Orientators©: the signage of the future:

         Orientator©

StatusQuo© addresses will be integrated within the existing signage or be indicated on so-called Orientators©.

Additionally, a round symbol called center pointer will be placed on their periphery and shall help to detect the direction m0 according to the following convention:

if the pointer is placed on top m0 will be in front of you
  on bottom   behind
  right hand   right hand

etc. Also a square symbol, the north pointer, can be placed with the same convention. The picture above reveals that north = m12 is behind, m0 is right hand.

( you can also read Vertical Pointing© using the F-clock: see below )

The addressing within the buildings considere each building as an own clock. This clock-within-clock methode can easily be recognized through the existence of another letter "m" within the address.

For example, the following code can be the logical address of an elevator:

          StatusQuo© ZZV m10 r3 m11:2 r2

Example of an Orientator©, integrated within an existing door sign:

 This picture reveals:

- the centrum m0 is ahead, slightly on left side.

- north (m12) is behind,

- the 3rd. code "e" (from elevation) after m11:2 r2 defines the floor number. Floors under  ground will have an "u

Navigation / Volksnav©:

The local navigation with the help of such codes is called VolksNav©. As proceeded today with house numbers, VolksNav© is nothing else than the major/minor comparison between "r" and "m" values:

Simply proceed according to 1 -2 -3 :

1

Positioning

Turn your body until m0 will be BEHIND. In this position,

ahead will be outwards
right hand " to later (clockwise)
left hand " to earlier

etc.

Beginners have to turn physically, after some exercises anyone will be able to do this by his imagination power. In case you look at above shown Orientator©, you'd have to turn to left, correct?

2

r-comparison

Ask yourself:

must I move inwards or outwards?

( = is the target radius greater or smaller than the actual one?)

3

m-comparison

Ask yourself:

must I move to “later” (clockwise) or to earlier?

( = is the target m later or earlier than the actual one?)

Let's see an example:

If the position code of your target is given as m2:3 r3

and you've lost orientation in front of the door m2:5 r2,

so you must go

- outwards ( r3 is greater than r2 )

and

- to "earlier" (counterclock)   ( :5 is "later"  than :3 )

This may seem to be unfamiliar, but the orientation based on cardinal points is used since some thousand years and imaginary clocks are used by soldiers, boy scouts, pilots, blind people etc. for more than 100 years. On a real situation, VolksNav© can be learned within few minutes in a life time.

Vision:

The same addressing methode will soon also be used outside of the Zeche Zollverein:

- within cities, see www.volksnav.com/mecca. The logical address of the Zeche Zollverein is:

           StatusQuo© ESS m1 r38  (steps of 100 meters)

- Natural World Co-ordinates: within the whole globe, see  www.watchrose.com. Acc. to this, the international City Code of Essen is

          WatchRose© m10:175 r495     (steps of 1km)

Mobile applications: very soon also mobile phones will indicate such logical position codes, see www.volksnav.com/london .

*)  F clock / Quantification of directions

you can also read Vertical Pointing© using the F-clock as follows:

 f12      =         in ( f ) ront of you      =       upper place on Orientator©

 f6        =         behind                     =        bottom place

etc. In other words: the f-places are at the same time f-directions starting from your body.

The interpretation of this example is:

m12 = f6 (behind)

m0 = f2
